The Rising Wild is an episodic documentary series which takes audiences on a colourful adventure to uncover inspired stories of solution makers from around the world– those who are harnessing the power of nature, community and Indigenous wisdom to address our escalating climate challenges with creativity, courage and heart.
Through the lens of Olivia Katz, American photographer, writer, documentary filmmaker and eco warrior, this series follows her journey across continents as she grapples with some of our planet’s most complex and interconnected environmental and social problems. An honest inventory of our most wicked issues (ie flood, fire, heat, landscape degradation, biodiversity loss, cost of living crisis, food insecurity etc) is the springboard for a hope-filled hunt for solutions.
We journey together, to discover those who are helping communities adapt, restore and regenerate--thus painting a picture of communities thriving alongside nature in an ecoystem in which evidence and action inspire change.
Each episode explores a unique context in which communities are driving solutions that benefit our natural world and the communities which depend on it.
We meet those planting microforests in abandoned city corners, to farmers integrating nature solutions to manage feral invaders and safeguard crops, communities navigating managed relocations and those who are returning our rivers and seas to vibrant, regenerative ecosystems, supporting both biodiversity and our coastal communities. Each episode illuminates the power and possibility of working with nature rather than against it.
Olivia serves as both the on-camera host and narrator, leading this series with heartfelt compassion, a deep love of the natural world and an innate curiosity, inviting the audience to learn alongside her on this transformative ride.
A special focus will be spent on amplifying First Nations, gender diverse, and climate vulnerable voices, creatures and ecosystems.
